Locks of Love

About a month ago I was able to get my hair cut and donate it to Locks of Love. Locks of Love is an organization that uses donated hair to make wigs for little girls going through cancer treatments. I barely made the 8" minimum for donation. I think it would have been a lot harder to go this short if I hadn't donated it. I love the new shorter length though and have gotten so many compliments on it. It is easy and fast to do.

Texas Fair and Rodeo

Some friends invited us to go to the Fair with them last week. I thought the kids would really enjoy going. I have actually never been. (I know . . . Nelson couldn't believe it either!) We mostly walked around the children's section looking at animals. The first thing we saw once we got in was the pony ride. Alli immediately wanted to ride, but I had to persuade Nelson. The whole time he rode he had to suck in his cheeks to keep from smiling. He didn't want us to know he was having a good time. :) Then we had some free ice cream from the dairy farm cart. We had lots of fun in the petting pen. There were deer, goats, a llama, an alpaca, a couple of kangaroos and a zebra (a little out of place for a Texas rodeo.) All of the animals kept trying to eat our clothes. One little baby goat especially liked my pants. Alli was really nervous because Nelson told her llamas spit and she didn't want to get spit on. The llama never spit, but it did try to eat Nelson's hair a couple of times. We had some really great food and saw some neat "cowboy" things. And, of course, we had cotton candy. I hope next time we can stay and watch the rodeo and go on the rides.

Clean Up Is Sweeeeeet!!!

I helped co-host a baby shower at our house last weekend for a friend who is very pregnant. We had a great time. The majority of the guests were also pregnant, so there was lots of questions and advice going around. Greg stopped in for a few minutes to say hi and was surprised to find so much good food. He said he thought showers were for giving gifts to the new mom, but he decided it must just be an excuse to get together and eat a lot. :) The food was great and the high-light was the chocolate fountain. We dipped all manner of food in it - YUM! When the shower was over, clean up began. My friend Chaliese asked Alli if she would like to help her clean out the chocolate fountain. Alli said "yes," of course, and when we all turned back around this is what we saw . . .

It's SOCCER TIME!!!

We are so excited!! Yep, it's soccer time again. Nelson started his fourth season with the Cobras last week. Coach Clay and four of the boys are back again. We love soccer season. It has become such a family affair for us. We go to all of the practices as a family and all of the games, with grandparents coming to some of the games. I am team mom this year (I figured it was my turn.) It is only right, I guess, since I am the loudest one on the side line. :) Our star players are all gone which is good because the other players will be able to play more and show their skills. Nelson is turning out to be a great defensive player. That is the same position that Greg played. He is so much more involved this year. He ran his heart out in the first game until his feet became hot and he poured two bottles of water in each shoe. You could tell his feet got really heavy and he sloshed when he ran. :)
